Infant march with firecrackers in the early morning. Hence the name 'despertà', which means wake-up call in valencian. It starts at the Church of Sant Joan del Hospital and ends in the Town Hall Square with a grand finale 'earthquake' —a large firecracker display—.
La 'despertà' is a route where people are awakened early by setting off firecrackers, hence the name, 'despertar' - to wake up. It begins shortly after the children's event and ends in the Town Hall Square with a large 'terratrèmol' or pyrotechnic earthquake.
The Crida (Valencian word for 'call') always takes place on the last Sunday of February. The Falleras Mayores of Valencia announce the beginning of the Fallas calendar. There are fireworks and visual effects during and after the event.
